Rotary engraving is the term used to describe engraving done with a rotating cutting tool in a motorized spindle. The tool, or cutter, cuts into the surface of the material to a predetermined depth and produces a groove of the same shape and dimension of the cutter. Rotary engraving can be performed on a wide variety of materials with plastic, brass and aluminum being the most common In addition to routing bits, we also offer a number of engraving bits. These bits come in a variety of tip widths and are available for either Flexible Engraving Stock (FLX) or Steel, Stainless Steel and Hard Metals (SSS). When selecting engraving bits for single stroke fonts, it is recommended that the width of the cut be approximately 12% of letter height. Example - 1/4 ? letter = .250 x .12 = .030 Bottom loading cutters can be used in routing spindles and the nose-riding engraver. Top-loading cutters are for the nose-riding engraver only. |
